Relationships Formed: Friendships at W2WM

At W2WM we’re big believers in building community!  So when we hear our participants say it’s hard to make friends as adults, we tell them they’re in the right place!  Here are a few stories about new friendships formed at W2WM!

Maria, a mentee told us: “I made SO many connections: Amina, Miranda, Lusmerlin, and Samantha, were probably my core group. I even went to Sam’s wedding! They all also assisted with the alumni group activities after we completed the core program.

I first met Lusmerlin in the core program. I usually sat behind her. She was so friendly, open, and smart. We struck up a conversation and things just hit it off.  I met Miranda when we were working on vision boards, I had a picture of bacon all over my board. I can’t remember what she said, but at the end of our convo, we were both laughing. I got to know Amina more during our alumni items. We’ve hung out a few times, and she was essential as she was the main person who created events, and always had intriguing conversations.”

Kathy, a Mentoring Circle participant shared:  “I needed a peer group to turn to for advice and help through a difficult time and those ladies lifted me up and helped me through it. Noelle and I developed a special bond because we were in a similar situation and similar age. We hold each other accountable and reach out when we need each other. I know she will always be there for me. It’s important to know that you will have someone there to support you and tell you to get off your butt if you need it.”

From mentor Beth:  “So far I have really grown to appreciate and respect [fellow mentors] Sarah and Monica.  After going on a group hike [with W2WM] at the C&O Canal, Sarah and I got a chance to talk and really connect. We then decided to meet for walks and she mentioned she thought I would also really like Monica, who she was also getting to know and really liked. And the rest is history!”

Jenna, a mentee, adds:  “Bee and I met in our CORE class, but we became even closer at the program’s conclusion. She has become one of my best friends. We love to craft together, and we’ve had fun attending trivia nights and bingo. She was one of my biggest cheerleaders during a difficult pregnancy, and I got to celebrate her at her wedding. You know those friends you read about in books and think would be so wonderful to have? That’s Bee.”
